Contractor Insurance in California

  • What insurance do I need to get a contractor license in CA?

To be licensed by the CSLB, most contractors need a contractor license bond. Many clients also expect proof of general liability and workers’ comp (if you have employees). We help with all three.

  • I’m a small contractor with no employees—do I still need workers’ comp?

Sole proprietors with no employees aren’t required to carry it, but if you work with subcontractors or day labor, it may still be wise. We’ll help you assess your risk and your legal obligations.

  • What is builder’s risk insurance, and do I need it?

Builder’s risk covers construction projects—materials, equipment, and progress—while under development. It’s often required for new builds or major renovations.

  • Can Derian Insurance provide contractor bonds?

Yes. We issue all types of contractor bonds, including license bonds required by the CSLB and bid/performance bonds needed for project bids. We’ll walk you through what’s needed and get them issued quickly.
