The insured must give prompt notice of loss to the agent or insurance company. If the loss involves theft the insured must notify the police. If credit cards are involved, please notify your credit card company.
The insured must protect the property from further damage. If repairs are required, the insured must: a) immediately make reasonable and necessary repairs to protect the property b) keep records of repair expenses
Document all additional costs with receipts
Keep specifications of damage & repair estimates
Provide the time & cause of loss
Explain the interest of the insured and others in the property involved
Notify your agent and/or insurance company of any other insurance which may cover the loss
Prepare an inventory of damaged property showing the quantity, description, actual cash value and amount of loss. Attach all bills, receipts and related documents that justify the figures in the inventory
Allow access to the insurance company to see the damage
Provide requested records to the company and/or agent
Submit to examination under oath at insurance companies request
Cooperate with the insurance company in enforcing any right of recovery against a third party who may have caused or contributed to the loss
